The Crowne Plaza, Northwood

Electro Automation secures the contract to design, supply, install, commission and maintain a complete car parking solution for the Crowne Plaza Northwood.

Electro Automation supply, install and maintain a full range of car parking equipment specifically designed for your requirements including Pay and Display for on-street parking and fully computerised Car Parking Solutions for the larger purpose-built car park.

After discussing the client’s full requirements at Project Management stage, it was decided that the Zeag Orion XR parking solution best met their needs and budget constraints.

The equipment includes the following:

  • 2 PE entry lanes
  • 1 PA exit lanes
  • 2 Unibar traffic barriers with 2.5m beams
  • 2 PK automatic payment stations with bank note reader, coin validator and credit card acceptance
  • 1 UCD (Universal Card-handling Device) with thermal printer and credit card escrow function
  • 2 central unit intercoms
  • 2 cashier stations with PC’s, ticket reader/writer and customer receipt printer
  • 1 ZMS work station and server with laser printer and intercom controller
  • 2 Loop Detectors for each lane
  • 2 Electronic Parking Information Signs
  • 4 Ultrasonic vehicle ramp detectors

These payment stations are key elements of the Orion system. The easy-to-understand man machine interface guides the user through the payment process. Zeag's own Universal Card Handling Device (UCD) reads tickets. The system calculates the fee according to the flexible tariff programs. The payment station allows the user to combine different mean of payment, e.g. cash, credit cards and electronic purse.

The UCD features single slot technology and processes not only paper tickets but also plastic cards. User friendliness always is our main focus. As a result, all elements are arranged in one line from left to right. Cashless-only stations and fee computers are further options. The Windows NT based management system ZMS offers wide area networking, customized revenue control and valuable management information.

Due to the layout of the entrance area for the multi-storey car park, the only areas within the car park that could be successfully counted were the basement and the upper levels. Because of the spaces immediately inside the entrance an accurate account on the ground floor would not be possible.

To counteract this issue, ultrasonic vehicle sensors, located on the individual UP and DOWN ramps in the car park, enable the system to accurately determine the real-time space availability in each zone. These provide a viable and very effective alternative to the traditional inductive loop sensor technology which invariably involves slot cutting in the ramp surface.

The detector is ceiling mounted over the vehicle ramps and detects vehicles passing underneath, while ignoring pedestrians, trolleys, bicycles and other objects which may give a false count.

These ultrasonic sensors are connected to the central car park control unit which processes the vehicle count information and transmits the parking space availability to the electronic parking information sign.

After studying the full range of Maintenance Contracts Electro Automation offer, The Crowne Plaza felt that a Platinum Plus contract would be best suited to their needs and budget. This contract offers unlimited free of charge callouts 24 hours, 7 days a week. All equipment failures are covered for both parts and labour - subject to normal Terms & Conditions.

Our engineers and technical support unit can connect into the system from our Headquarters if needed, and provide full diagnostics and reporting remotely. In the unlikely event of a repair not being completed, the faulty equipment is removed from site and a loan unit is supplied free of charge however each part of the car-parking system is serviced every month.
